ok so I do understand with most of this, although I still am partial to Thrall/Jaina, but whatever, that’s not the point of what I’m about to ask.
its this part, and keep in mind I’m not questioning you, I’m just honestly curious about the story behind this part:
Thrall came to Nagrand to learn to become a better shaman. Aggra was that teacher. She did not tell him that everything he knows is wrong. She was rude, yes, but that was explained, because Aggra was furious at him for leaving her people- HIS people, for this alien world that was unknown to her, and therefore didn’t matter to her. She had her OWN broken world to heal, and for the great Warchief Thrall to abandon his people, the uncorrupted Mag’har orcs, was almost a slap to the face. This is where his people came from, and he seemed to not want to be a part of it. They are two worlds, yes, and eventhough the green-skinned orcs and the Mag’har have different cultures and whatnot, they are STILL the same race. Aggra didn’t beat him down for his beliefs and values- if anything she merely scoffed at his rudimentary grasp on Shamanism (and let’s be real here, Drek’thar was a great teacher, and Thrall is a great Shaman, but until he learned about Shamanism from the /source/, he was still not the most learned Shaman), was hostile towards him for abandoning the Mag’har, and would not bow to him because he was ‘Warchief’ Thrall.
I was under the impression that at the time of Thrall’s birth, the portal between the outlands and Azeroth had been closed for a while, only to be reopened in the Burning Crusade. And he was raised by humans, so his knowledge of the existence of the Mag’har would have been… nonexistent, probably.
Is Aggra annoyed that Thrall didn’t rush back to the Mag’har as soon as they regained contact with one another? I mean, honestly, considering that the portal was only reopened a few years ago, and taking into account everything that was going on in Azeroth since then, it’s a pretty good reaction time politically.
So I don’t understand Aggra’s annoyance in him “abandoning” his people, when he really didn’t. If anything, he was just making sure that who he considers his people, the people of Azeroth, were taken care of first.
Correct me if I’m wrong, this was just my understanding of the situation.
Oh no, actually, Aggra is upset that when the Portal DID reopen, Thrall only visited…What, once? And then he never came back. Aggra had hoped, when the portal had reopened, that Thrall would come back to his people. Well, he did. And he gave the Mag’har a place in the horde. But that’s literally all he did. He never went back after that first time. And while I understand Thrall’s need to take care of his people on Azeroth, I also understand Aggra’s pain. The Mag’har were Thrall’s people, his grandmother still lives and leads them. She wanted Thrall to make a bigger move to come back to his people and learn their cultures and their secrets and to reunite the two orc kinds. She wanted him to come back and learn their secrets and his heritage, and embrace them as his people Instead? He continued doing his duty in Azeroth. (Which, of course, i understand.) And many of the Mag’har stayed in Nagrand. Garrosh was one of the few who went to Azeroth to stabilize their place in the Horde. The majority of the Mag’har remained forgotten, and the orc race in general remained split right down the middle.
And I actually was kind of upset at this too, Garrosh was really the only Mag’har to take a stand and remind people of the Mag’har, yet…people sometimes forget he’s a Mag’har because he’s such a terribad leader. But with Aggra as Thrall’s wife/mate? With the future leader of the Mag’har by the Warchief’s side? THAT is the link they need. That is what they need to bring the two cultures together.
Ah, I see! That clears up a lot.
But with Aggra as Thrall’s wife/mate? With the future leader of the Mag’har by the Warchief’s side? THAT is the link they need.
Well put! I never thought of that.
This is a good post and you should feel good.
